Work History:

Coldfusion Developer - Diversified Solutions/Union Pacific
(Oct 2007 - Present) Omaha, NE

At Union Pacific I created various web applications with Coldfusion, jQuery, and Oracle. These applications were mainly for distribution and approval systems. UP has internal design components called Ricola that is required for all web applications. So the look and feel part of my applications we already created allowing me to focus strictly on development. In this position I used Coldfusion in a mostly object oriented way. I used many CFCs, several web services, and a custom recursive function. We worked in both Coldfusion MX7 and version 8. With jQuery I created sorting effects, hide show toggles, and forced zebra striping. UP was happy with my work and extended me many times over, to continue my development efforts. Additionally, I have created and used some JAVA elements in my applications for various functionality that proved to execute more quickly than Coldfusion equivalents (mainly with string and list management and some XML parsing). Additionally, I worked on technical interviews with Diversified Solutions for potential Coldfusion candidates.

Sr. Developer - QA3 Financial
(Jan 2007 - July 2007) Omaha, NE

I returned now as Senior Developer for QA3 Financial (an Omaha based broker dealer), which nets about 65 million each year by working with independent financial advisors around the U.S.

Here, I work on various existing code based in ASP classic. We have many in house tools and a few simple website fronts that log into back advisor desktop tools. The in house tools spread across 300 ASP pages of various types. The pages cover document repositories, various registration and payment sections, newsletters and forum tools, as well as many forms and reports. I have also created several Coldfusion web applications and reporting tools. Currently, the company has entertained the idea of ASP.NET. In ASP.NET using C# I received 3 training courses, some self study to created roughly 25-30 console applications, and a few small web applications. I am still learning .NET technologies/methodologies, OOP and best practices.

In using Coldfusion, I maintained four Coldfusion servers, updated all our MX servers to Scorpio (Coldfusion 8) upon release, re-applied the data sources, registered custom cfx tags, implemented Fusebox 4 Framework where I could, and created about 20 small to medium automated processes and web applications.

Additionally, we work with all forms of Databases, from Oracle 10G to SQL Server 2000. There are many Access database projects in house as well. A good part of my time was managing these various data sources, creating SQL queries, data exports, imports, and scheduled tasks through DTS and other methods.

Lastly in my position, I focus on functional specification requirement (FRS) writing for our team and other departments who need applications developed. We created Use Cases, Dataflow Diagrams, and Programming Guides, to get a better understanding of the tool that needs to be developed. We do focus on signatures (sign-off) processes, both in planning and development, to prevent any feature creeps or costly rework that often occur without these processes.

PHP Developer - Mandolfo Associates/ West Communications
(Present) Omaha, NE

For West Communications I was brought in to develop a PHP scripting solution for an incident database reporting tool. The tool required a data source migration from a proprietary DB into Microsoft SQL server. Next, we were to create a cron job to run a PHP script that imported the source to a MySQL database. Finally, we had to have the ability for management to run custom reporting against the MySQL source. This is a work in progress and I create components for the project part time and weekends.

Coldfusion Developer - XIG
(Present) Chicago, IL

For XIG Is was brought on to handle overflow work, mainly Coldfusion troubleshooting. I mainly focused on newsletter templates, queries, flow control, character replacement techniques and altering interface options. This work is all done remotely from home.

Additionally, I have worked with Coldfusion file and directory management methods and file archive handling.

The technology we work with is strictly Coldfusion.

XIG is a group of remote programmers and administrative team members spread across the U.S.

ASP/Oracle Developer - Mandolfo Associates/ QA3
(May 2006) Omaha, NE

I came into this project to create break-out reports and search tools using ASP 3.0 and Oracle 10 for their Representative Database' tool on www.qa3.com. This was an emergency, short term project and dealt with financial brokerage elements like variable annuities, oil and gas futures, and mutual funds.

The reports were created separately and cut into their existing AJAX framework to maintain the look and feel of the rest of the site.

The search tool was created using elements of existing search functionality that was abandoned by the initial programmer. That code was brought back to life and additional functionality was added.

I also commented all my code and queries for any future programmers that would be assigned to manage these tools and reports.

Additionally, I created detailed documentation of each days work and how much time was spent on research, coding and design.

Editor and Writer - Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan News Paper
(Sept 2005 to March 2006) Yankton, SD

I learned layout and design as it applies to news print, including story selection, arrangement of relevant news articles, and packaging of local, national, and international stories. I designed every news paper except the Monday paper during my tenure.

In addition to being the layout design editor, I also wrote stories for the paper, which ranged from local beat, news stories with a local impact, enterprise feature stories, and opinion editorials. As a writer I often interfaced with county and city officials and other notable sources for story material. I also created my own graphics to package with my stories.

As a third responsibility, I worked on converting at the Local and Midwest stories to html documents and converted any images from print to a web friendly format. We had specific tools to do this, but sometimes I had to work these files manually. Next we would cut the stories to the live site via an SSH utility. We would then check the site for any issues, and initialize our bulk mail utility for our subscribers.

Coldfusion Developer - HighCountryXtreme.com
(August 2005 - May 2006)

For this project I was brought in to create a website that focused around sporting events that take place mainly in the Colorado Mountains, including skiing and snowboarding. We created very friendly website that allowed for article publishing, tips, and events calendar, product reviews, and other fun informational trinkets. The site featured an administrative section with a login session. There the user could create links, publish their articles, add tips, and events, and turn modules on and off if they didn't need certain aspects. We were also ramping up to create advertisement components for the site, which were completed but not implemented. One of the owners decided to run for the Senate, so the project has been put on hold until the season starts again.
